History and heritage
A legacy that spans generations and cities.
The club’s story reaches back to 1941, when people from Greene County, Alabama gathered in Chicago for fellowship that grew into an enduring civic and social tradition.
Historical Timeline
- 1941 Chicago roots began with social gatherings that led to the organization of the Greene County Social Club.
- 1943 Detroit organized after interest grew among Alabamians living there.
- 1947–1997 Additional chapters formed over time, including Greene County, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Birmingham, and New York Tri-State.
- 2006 The club motto and mission statement were formally adopted.
- 2007 onward Scholarship and website development expanded the club’s public-facing legacy.
